Bill Belichick seemingly starting ESPN journey with Pat McAfee

During an edition of "The Pat McAfee Show" in late March, McAfee teased that his program's draft broadcast could feature none other than former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. 

Both McAfee and Belichick confirmed (video contains NSFW language) on Wednesday that the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach will be part of "The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular" on the evening of April 25.

"I’m looking forward to it," Belichick told McAfee, as shared by Lauren Campbell of MassLive. "Draft day and draft weekend is always an exciting time for everybody, for the teams building their teams, for the fans and for everyone involved in. It’s a great event and I’m looking forward to seeing it from the other side. It’ll be fun to be in Detroit, to be with you guys and get your expertise."

Belichick previously joined McAfee on ESPN's "College GameDay" set this past fall. 

McAfee shared the news hours after a bombshell story from ESPN's Don Van Natta Jr., Seth Wickersham and Jeremy Fowler revealed that Belichick is "expected to sign a deal to do analysis for Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions, which produces ESPN's "ManningCast" during "Monday Night Football"" at some point in the coming weeks. Belichick had been linked with other NFL media partners and it's believed Omaha Productions and NFL Films could come together to create a project for the 72-year-old. 

Belichick failed to land a head coaching gig this winter after he and Patriots owner Robert Kraft "mutually" agreed to part ways in January. Wednesday's ESPN story revealed that Belichick could "be interested in coaching" the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants or Philadelphia Eagles during at least the 2025 season. 

"Trust me, I’ve sat through a few of them," Belichick said about drafts while speaking with McAfee on Wednesday. "I’ll be ready to go. We’ll have our own kind of draft room set up as if we were the 33rd team. And kind of watch the guys come off the board and talk about what other teams' needs are, and potentially the trade conversations." 

Interestingly, the Patriots hold the draft's third overall pick and are likely to spend that asset on a quarterback. Expect McAfee to hold nothing back while trying to get Belichick's honest reaction to what New England does two Thursdays from now.
