Josh Allen Set To Be With Jacksonville Jaguars For 2024 Season After New Development
Bob Self/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK

The quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars defense last season, outside linebacker Josh Allen, is set to remain with the team for the 2024 season. The team has a long way to go before Allen is a long-term feature for the defense.

The Jacksonville Jaguars want to keep their prize OLB

Per GH Media, general manager Trent Baalke said negotiations with Allen would start after the regular season:

“Those negotiations will start,” Baalke said. “I know Josh wants to be here. I know we want him here. Can we come to a number that works for everybody? That’s the key and I respect that. You have to respect these guys that put themselves in this position. They work hard. They deserve to make good money. What that ‘good’ means to them could be different than what it means to us.

The team still seems aways apart. But the Jaguars will have Allen back for the upcoming season.

Josh Allen received the franchise tag

Per Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Jaguars are set to place the franchise tag on Allen. The tag will cost the Jaguar $24 million in 2024. The team believes they will extend Allen to a long-term contract.

Allen’s price is sky-high after a breakout year in contract season

Allen is coming off his best career season. He recorded 17.5 sacks in 2023, the first season he has recorded double-digit sack numbers since he was a rookie during the 2019 season and recorded 10.5 sacks. The Jaguars don’t want to buy too high for Allen.

As great as his numbers for 2023 were, Allen recorded 16 total sacks in the three seasons prior to the 2023 regular season.
