Inter Milan Vice-President Hails 'Happiness & Responsibility' In Current Role

Javier Zanetti feels that there is a sense of “happiness and responsibility” in his current role as Vice-President of Inter Milan.

Speaking at the Festival del Lavoro in Florence, via FCInterNews, the executive and former Nerazzurri captain opened up about his current position.

Zanetti formed a strong association with Inter during his playing days.

The former Argentine international made a total of 858 appearances for the Nerazzurri as a player. The majority of these came as club captain.

Zanetti won no shortage of trophies during his time at Inter.

And it would be a gross understatement to call the former captain a fan favourite.

Zanetti stuck around for nearly twenty years as a player at Inter. The Argentine’s longevity was one of his great traits.

But all things must come to an end. And in 2014, Zanetti decided to finally hang up his boots.

Ending his playing career did not mean ending his time at Inter for Zanetti, however.

Rather, the Argentine took on a new role. This time, behind the scenes.

Zanetti has now been Vice-President of Inter for around a decade.

That time has seen plenty of ups and downs for the former captain. And it has also meant the opportunity to lift more trophies even after his time on the pitch came to an end.

Inter have won the Serie A title twice, the Coppa Italia twice, and the Supercoppa Italiana on three occasions with Zanetti as Vice-President.

The Nerazzurri have also appeared in a Europa League and Champions League final.

Zanetti noted that “A lot of former footballers become coaches.”

“I wanted to become a director behind the scenes,” the former Inter captain continued. “And above all, not just a director of the sporting side of things.”

“I wanted to have a broader, 360-degree vision,” explained Zanetti.

He mused that “I find myself at a very important phase of my life. Because I’m making myself useful to my club, and not just in terms of the sporting side of things.”

“When Inter told me that I would become Vice-President, there was a massive feeling of happiness on my part,” he continued.
